The Book of Enoch 87

How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.

Charles translation (1917)

1And again I saw how they began to gore each other and to devour each other, and the earth began to cry aloud.

And again I saw how they began to gore each other and to devour each other, and the earth — the outer life itself — began to cry aloud.

2And I raised mine eyes again to heaven, and I saw in the vision, and behold there came forth from heaven beings who were like white men: and four went forth from that place and three with them.

And I raised mine eyes again to heaven, and I saw in the vision, and behold there came forth from heaven beings who were like white men — divine ideas in human form, wholly of the divine order, the archangel-faculties: and four went forth from that place and three with them.

3And those three that had last come forth grasped me by my hand and took me up, away from the generations of the earth, and raised me up to a lofty place, and showed me a tower raised high above the earth, and all the hills were lower.

And those three that had last come forth grasped me by my hand and took me up, away from the generations of the earth — away from the orders of the outer states — and raised me up to a lofty place, an exalted state of seeing, and showed me a tower raised high above the earth — a watch-height of the spirit — and all the hills were lower.

4And one said unto me: 'Remain here till thou seest everything that befalls those elephants, camels, and asses, and the stars and the oxen, and all of them.'

And one said unto me: 'Remain here till thou seest everything that befalls those elephants, camels, and asses — those swollen offspring-states — and the stars — the fallen light-faculties — and the oxen, and all of them.'
