The Book of Enoch 25

How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.

Charles translation (1917)

1And he said unto me: 'Enoch, why dost thou ask me regarding the fragrance of the tree,

And he said unto me: Enoch — the faculty that walks with God — why do you ask me regarding the fragrance of the tree,

2and ⌈why⌉ dost thou wish to learn the truth?' Then I answered him ⌈⌈saying⌉⌉: 'I wish to

and why do you wish to learn the truth? Then I answered him, saying: I wish to

3know about everything, but especially about this tree.' And he answered saying: 'This high mountain ⌈⌈which thou hast seen⌉⌉, whose summit is like the throne of God, is His throne, where the Holy Great One, the Lord of Glory, the Eternal King, will sit, when He shall come down to visit the earth with goodness.

know about everything, but especially about this tree. And he answered, saying: This high mountain which you have seen, whose summit is like the throne of God — the seat of the ruling Source — is His throne, where the Holy Great One, the Lord of Glory, the Eternal King, will sit, when He shall come down to visit the outer life with goodness.

4And as for this fragrant tree no mortal is permitted to touch it till the great judgement, when He shall take vengeance on all and bring (everything) to its consummation for ever. It shall then be given to the righteous and holy.

And as for this fragrant tree — the tree of wisdom — no mortal is permitted to touch it till the great judgment, when He shall take vengeance on all — visit every error with its reckoning — and bring everything to its consummation for the lasting age. It shall then be given to the righteous and holy — the right-ordered states wholly of the divine order.

5Its fruit shall be for food to the elect: it shall be transplanted to the holy place, to the temple of the Lord, the Eternal King. 6

Its fruit shall be for food — spiritual nourishment — to the elect, the chosen states; it shall be transplanted to the holy place, to the temple — the established sanctuary-state — of the indwelling LORD, the Eternal King.

6Then shall they rejoice with joy and be glad, And into the holy place shall they enter; And its fragrance shall be in their bones, And they shall live a long life on earth, Such as thy fathers lived: And in their days shall no ⌈⌈sorrow or⌉⌉ plague Or torment or calamity touch them.' 7

Then shall they rejoice with joy and be glad, and into the holy place shall they enter; and its fragrance shall be in their bones — the essential structure of their states — and they shall live a long life on the outer life, such as your fathers lived; and in their days shall no sorrow or plague or torment or calamity touch them.

7Then blessed I the God of Glory, the Eternal King, who hath prepared such things for the righteous, and hath created them and promised to give to them.

Then I blessed the God of Glory, the Eternal King — the Source in His manifested Presence — who has prepared such things for the righteous, the right-ordered states, and has created them and promised to give them to them.
