The Book of Enoch 26

How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.

Charles translation (1917)

1And I went from thence to the middle of the earth, and I saw a blessed place ⌈in which there were trees⌉ with branches abiding and blooming [of a dismembered tree].

And I went from there to the middle of the outer life, and I saw a blessed place — increased by divine favour — in which there were trees, established beliefs, with branches abiding and blooming, of a tree cut apart yet still living in its branches.

2And there I saw a holy mountain, ⌈⌈and⌉⌉ underneath the mountain to the east there was a stream and it flowed towards the south.

And there I saw a holy mountain — an exalted state set apart to God — and underneath the mountain to the east there was a stream, a current of life and thought, and it flowed towards the south.

3And I saw towards the east another mountain higher than this, and between them a deep and narrow ravine: in it also ran a stream ⌈underneath⌉ the mountain.

And I saw towards the east another mountain higher than this, and between them a deep and narrow ravine — a low cleft between the heights; in it also ran a stream underneath the mountain.

4And to the west thereof there was another mountain, lower than the former and of small elevation, and a ravine ⌈deep and dry⌉ between them: and another deep and dry ravine was at the extremities of the three ⌈mountains⌉.

And to the west thereof there was another mountain, lower than the former and of small elevation, and a ravine deep and dry between them; and another deep and dry ravine was at the extremities of the three mountains.

5And all the ravines were deep ⌈⌈and narrow⌉⌉, (being formed) of hard rock, and trees were not planted upon them.

And all the ravines were deep and narrow, being formed of hard rock, and trees — established beliefs — were not planted upon them: no belief could root in those hard, low clefts.

6And I marveled ⌈⌈at the rocks, and I marveled⌉⌉ at the ravine, yea, I marveled very much.

And I marveled at the rocks, and I marveled at the ravine — yea, I marveled very much.
