The Book of Enoch 8
How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.
Charles translation (1917)
1And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals 〈of the earth〉 and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures.
And Azâzêl — the concentrated adversarial state to whom all sin is ascribed — taught the faculties to make swords, the cutting word turned into a weapon, and knives, and shields and breastplates, the defensive furnishings turned to war; and he made known to them the metals of the outer life and the art of working them, and bracelets and ornaments, and the use of antimony and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures — the adorning of the sense-life outwardly in place of the inner order.

And there arose much godlessness — states turned away from the Source — and they committed fornication, unfaithful union with the sense-life, and they

Semjâzâ taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, Armârôs the resolving of enchantments, Barâqîjâl, (taught) astrology, Kôkabêl the constellations, Ezêqêêl the knowledge of the clouds, 〈Araqiêl the signs of the earth, Shamsiêl the signs of the sun〉, and Sariêl the course of the moon. And as men perished, they cried, and their cry went up to heaven . . .
were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways. Semjâzâ — the ruling faculty of the descent, who binds the others by oath to the fall — taught enchantments and root-cuttings, the binding and cutting of thoughts for hidden power; Armârôs the resolving of enchantments, Barâqîjâl astrology, Kôkabêl the constellations, Ezêqêêl the knowledge of the clouds, Araqiêl the signs of the outer life, Shamsiêl the signs of the sun, and Sariêl the course of the moon — the ordered knowledges of truth read as outer omens instead of by the Source. And as the faculties perished, they cried, and their cry went up to the inner realm.
