The Book of Enoch 91
How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.
Charles translation (1917)
1'And now, my son Methuselah, call to me all thy brothers And gather together to me all the sons of thy mother; For the word calls me, And the spirit is poured out upon me, That I may show you everything That shall befall you for ever.'
And now, my son Methuselah — the preserving faculty that carries the testimony down the line of states — call to me all your brothers, and gather together to me all the sons of your mother; for the Word — the divine Idea expressing itself — calls me, and the Breath is poured out upon me, that I may show you everything that shall befall you for the lasting age.
2And there upon Methuselah went and summoned to him all his brothers and assembled his relatives.
And thereupon Methuselah went and summoned to him all his brothers, and assembled his relatives — the kindred faculties of the same house.
3And he spake unto all the children of righteousness and said: 'Hear, ye sons of Enoch, all the words of your father, And hearken aright to the voice of my mouth; For I exhort you and say unto you, beloved: Love uprightness and walk therein.
And he spoke to all the children of righteousness — states in right relation to the divine order — and said: Hear, you sons of Enoch — the faculty that walks with God — all the words of your father, and hearken rightly to the voice of my mouth; for I exhort you and say to you, beloved: Love uprightness — rightness lived in the order — and walk therein.
4And draw not nigh to uprightness with a double heart, And associate not with those of a double heart, But walk in righteousness, my sons. And it shall guide you on good paths, And righteousness shall be your companion.
And do not draw near to uprightness with a double heart — an affection divided between the order and sense — and do not associate with those of a double heart, but walk in righteousness, my sons. And it shall guide you on good paths — the courses of a state in right relation — and righteousness shall be your companion.
5For I know that violence must increase on the earth, And a great chastisement be executed on the earth, And all unrighteousness come to an end: Yea, it shall be cut off from its roots, And its whole structure be destroyed.
For I know that violence — the forcing of sense-states against the order — must increase on the earth, the outer life, and a great chastisement — the divine order confronting a state all at once — be worked on the outer life, and all unrighteousness come to an end: yes, it shall be cut off from its roots — its hidden sources — and its whole structure be destroyed.
6And unrighteousness shall again be consummated on the earth, And all the deeds of unrighteousness and of violence And transgression shall prevail in a twofold degree.
And unrighteousness shall again be brought to its full measure on the outer life, and all the deeds of unrighteousness and of violence and transgression — acts apart from the divine order — shall prevail in a twofold degree.
7And when sin and unrighteousness and blasphemy And violence in all kinds of deeds increase, And apostasy and transgression and uncleanness increase, A great chastisement shall come from heaven upon all these, And the holy Lord will come forth with wrath and chastisement To execute judgement on earth.
And when sin — error, a state acting apart from the divine order and missing its own good — and unrighteousness and blasphemy and violence in all kinds of deeds increase, and apostasy — the falling away from the order — and transgression and uncleanness increase, a great chastisement shall come from heaven, the inner realm, upon all these, and the holy Lord — the indwelling LORD — will come forth with wrath and chastisement to execute judgment on the earth, the outer life.
8In those days violence shall be cut off from its roots, And the roots of unrighteousness together with deceit, And they shall be destroyed from under heaven.
In those days violence shall be cut off from its roots, and the roots of unrighteousness together with deceit — the false seeming that hides a state from itself — shall be destroyed from under heaven, the inner realm.
9And all the idols of the heathen shall be abandoned, And the temples burned with fire, And they shall remove them from the whole earth, And they (i.e. the heathen) shall be cast into the judgement of fire, And shall perish in wrath and in grievous judgement for ever.
And all the idols of the heathen — formed images of lesser goods, held by the outer states not yet ordered to God — shall be abandoned, and the temples — the sanctuary-states built to them — burned with fire, the consuming judgment of truth, and they shall remove them from the whole earth, the outer life; and those states shall be cast into the judgment of fire, and shall perish in wrath and in grievous judgment for a lasting age — the duration of their consequence, not endless torment as a divine purpose.
10And the righteous shall arise from their sleep, And wisdom shall arise and be given unto them. [
And the righteous — the states in right relation to the order — shall arise from their sleep, the hidden state of faculties asleep in sense, and wisdom shall arise and be given unto them.
11And after that the roots of unrighteousness shall be cut off, and the sinners shall be destroyed by the sword . . . shall be cut off from the blasphemers in every place, and those who plan violence and those who commit blasphemy shall perish by the sword.]
And after that the roots of unrighteousness shall be cut off, and the sinners — the error-bound states — shall be destroyed by the sword, the cutting word that divides state from state; they shall be cut off from the blasphemers in every place, and those who plan violence and those who commit blasphemy shall perish by the sword.
12And after that there shall be another, the eighth week, that of righteousness, And a sword shall be given to it that a righteous judgement may be executed on the oppressors, And sinners shall be delivered into the hands of the righteous. 13
And after that there shall be another, the eighth week — a complete cycle of states in its appointed measure — that of righteousness, and a sword, the cutting word, shall be given to it, that a righteous judgment may be executed on the oppressors — the states that press others under sense-rule — and sinners shall be delivered into the hands of the righteous.
13And at its close they shall acquire houses through their righteousness, And a house shall be built for the Great King in glory for evermore, 14d.
And at its close they shall acquire houses — dwelling-states — through their righteousness, and a house shall be built for the Great King, the ruling state of the Source, in glory — the manifested weight of the Presence — for evermore, for the lasting age.
14And all mankind shall look to the path of uprightness. 14a. And after that, in the ninth week, the righteous judgement shall be revealed to the whole world, b. And all the works of the godless shall vanish from all the earth, c. And the world shall be written down for destruction.
And all mankind shall look to the path of uprightness. And after that, in the ninth week, the righteous judgment shall be revealed to the whole world, the ordered outer realm of human life, and all the works of the godless shall vanish from all the earth, the outer life, and the world shall be written down for destruction — its old order recorded as ended.
15And after this, in the tenth week in the seventh part, There shall be the great eternal judgement, In which He will execute vengeance amongst the angels.
And after this, in the tenth week, in the seventh part, there shall be the great lasting judgment, in which He will execute vengeance amongst the angels — the divine ideas ministering between the higher and lower consciousness.
16And the first heaven shall depart and pass away, And a new heaven shall appear, And all the powers of the heavens shall give sevenfold light.
And the first heaven — the first inner realm — shall depart and pass away, and a new heaven shall appear, and all the powers of the heavens shall give sevenfold light — understanding in its complete measure.
17And after that there will be many weeks without number for ever, And all shall be in goodness and righteousness, And sin shall no more be mentioned for ever.
And after that there will be many weeks without number for the lasting age, and all shall be in goodness and righteousness, and sin — error apart from the order — shall no more be mentioned for ever.
18And now I tell you, my sons, and show you The paths of righteousness and the paths of violence. Yea, I will show them to you again That ye may know what will come to pass.
And now I tell you, my sons, and show you the paths of righteousness and the paths of violence. Yes, I will show them to you again, that you may know what will come to pass.
19And now, hearken unto me, my sons, And walk in the paths of righteousness, And walk not in the paths of violence; For all who walk in the paths of unrighteousness shall perish for ever.'
And now, hearken unto me, my sons, and walk in the paths of righteousness, and walk not in the paths of violence; for all who walk in the paths of unrighteousness shall perish for a lasting age.
