The Book of Enoch 94

How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.

Charles translation (1917)

1And now I say unto you, my sons, love righteousness and walk therein; For the paths of righteousness are worthy of acceptation, But the paths of unrighteousness shall suddenly be destroyed and vanish.

And now I say unto you, my sons — the offspring-states born of this teaching — love righteousness, a state in right relation to the divine order, and walk therein; for the courses of righteousness are worthy of being received, but the courses of unrighteousness shall suddenly be dissolved and vanish.

2And to certain men of a generation shall the paths of violence and of death be revealed, And they shall hold themselves afar from them, And shall not follow them.

And to certain states of a generation — an order of states yet to arise — the courses of violence and of death shall be revealed for what they are, and they shall hold themselves far from them, and shall not follow them.

3And now I say unto you the righteous: Walk not in the paths of wickedness, nor in the paths of death, And draw not nigh to them, lest ye be destroyed.

And now I say unto you, the right-ordered states: Walk not in the courses of wickedness — of states twisted away from the order — nor in the courses of death, and draw not near to them, lest the state in you be destroyed.

4But seek and choose for yourselves righteousness and an elect life, And walk in the paths of peace, And ye shall live and prosper.

But seek and choose for yourselves righteousness and a chosen life, and walk in the courses of peace — rest within the order — and ye shall live and flourish.

5And hold fast my words in the thoughts of your hearts, And suffer them not to be effaced from your hearts; For I know that sinners will tempt men to evilly-entreat wisdom, So that no place may be found for her, And no manner of temptation may minish.

And hold fast my words — the divine idea as it is spoken — in the thoughts of your hearts, the inner centre where thought and affection meet, and let them not be wiped from your hearts; for I know that error-bound states will tempt the faculties to ill-treat wisdom, the knowing of the divine order, so that no place may be found for her, and no manner of temptation may diminish her.

6Woe to those who build unrighteousness and oppression And lay deceit as a foundation; For they shall be suddenly overthrown, And they shall have no peace.

Woe — the grief-state — belongs to those who build unrighteousness and oppression and lay deceit as a foundation, building on disorder and crushing and falsehood; for they shall suddenly be overthrown, and peace, rest within the order, shall not be theirs.

7Woe to those who build their houses with sin; For from all their foundations shall they be overthrown, And by the sword shall they fall. [And those who acquire gold and silver in judgement suddenly shall perish.]

Woe belongs to those who build their houses — their dwelling-states — with sin, with error; for from all their foundations shall they be overthrown, and by the sword — the cutting word of truth that divides state from state — shall they fall. And those who grasp gold and silver under judgment shall suddenly perish.

8Woe to you, ye rich, for ye have trusted in your riches, And from your riches shall ye depart, Because ye have not remembered the Most High in the days of your riches.

Woe to you, ye rich — you states that trust in your accumulated outer riches — for ye have trusted in your riches, and from your riches shall ye depart, because ye have not remembered the Most High — the Source under His highest title — in the days of your riches.

9Ye have committed blasphemy and unrighteousness, And have become ready for the day of slaughter, And the day of darkness and the day of the great judgement.

Ye have committed speech against the Source and unrighteousness, and have become ready for the day of slaughter, and the day of darkness — unilluminated consciousness — and the day of the great judgment, when the divine order confronts the state all at once.

10Thus I speak and declare unto you: He who hath created you will overthrow you, And for your fall there shall be no compassion, And your Creator will rejoice at your destruction.

Thus I speak and declare unto you: He who created you — the Source who formed you — will overthrow the state you have become, and for your fall there shall be no compassion that spares the error, and your Creator will rejoice at your destruction — at the destruction of the error, not of the soul He made.

11And your righteous ones in those days shall be A reproach to the sinners and the godless.

And your righteous ones in those days — the right-ordered states within you in that crisis — shall stand as a reproach to the error-bound and godless states: their very order shall convict what is twisted.
