The Book of Enoch 95

How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.

Charles translation (1917)

1Oh that mine eyes were [a cloud of] waters That I might weep over you, And pour down my tears as a cloud †of† waters: That so I might rest from my trouble of heart!

Oh that mine eyes were a cloud of waters — unformed feeling rising as tears — that I might weep over you, and pour down my tears as a cloud of waters, that so I might rest from my trouble of heart, from the grief at my inner centre!

2†Who has permitted you to practice reproaches and wickedness? And so judgement shall overtake you, sinners. †

Who has permitted you to practise reproaches and wickedness — twisted speech and states twisted away from the order? And so judgment — the divine order confronting the state all at once — shall overtake you, you error-bound states.

3Fear not the sinners, ye righteous; For again will the Lord deliver them into your hands, That ye may execute judgement upon them according to your desires.

Fear not the sinners, ye righteous — you right-ordered states, fear not the error-bound states; for again will the indwelling LORD deliver them into your hands — into your power — that ye may work judgment upon them according to your desires.

4Woe to you who fulminate anathemas which cannot be reversed: Healing shall therefore be far from you because of your sins.

Woe to you who hurl anathemas — curses a state pronounces and cannot call back — which cannot be reversed: healing — the return to wholeness — shall therefore be far from you because of your sins, your errors.

5Woe to you who requite your neighbour with evil; For ye shall be requited according to your works.

Woe to you who return evil to your neighbour — the fellow faculty beside you — for evil; for ye shall be repaid according to your works, the state receiving back the fruit, the visible result, of what it has produced.

6Woe to you, lying witnesses, And to those who weigh out injustice, For suddenly shall ye perish.

Woe to you, lying witnesses — faculties that testify falsely — and to those who weigh out injustice as if it were right; for suddenly shall ye perish.

7Woe to you, sinners, for ye persecute the righteous; For ye shall be delivered up and persecuted because of injustice, And heavy shall its yoke be upon you.

Woe to you, sinners — error-bound states — for ye persecute the right-ordered states; for ye shall be given up and persecuted because of injustice, and heavy shall its yoke — the burden the ruling error lays upon the state — be upon you.
