The Book of Enoch 96

How to read these pages: the text itself comes first, verse by verse, in the volume's own translation. Beneath each verse stands its Meaning — a rendering of what the passage's terms name in the inner life, drawn from the correspondences the text itself uses. The text is never altered; the meaning is offered, not imposed.

Charles translation (1917)

1Be hopeful, ye righteous; for suddenly shall the sinners perish before you, And ye shall have lordship over them according to your desires. [

Be hopeful, ye righteous — you right-ordered states, be hopeful; for suddenly shall the error-bound states perish before you, and ye shall have lordship over them according to your desires — the rightful rule of the spiritual mind over the lower nature it once served.

2And in the day of the tribulation of the sinners, Your children shall mount and rise as eagles, And higher than the vultures will be your nest, And ye shall ascend and enter the crevices of the earth, And the clefts of the rock for ever as coneys before the unrighteous, And the sirens shall sigh because of you-and weep.]

And in the day of the tribulation of the sinners — the crisis-day of the error-bound states — your children, your offspring-states, shall mount and rise as eagles, as soaring thoughts, and higher than the vultures — the sense-thoughts that feed on what is dead — will be your nest, your resting-place; and ye shall ascend and enter the crevices of the earth and the clefts of the rock for ever as coneys — the timid, lowly thoughts taking refuge in the hard, formed truth — before the unrighteous, and the sirens — the wailing sense-voices — shall sigh because of you, and weep.

3Wherefore fear not, ye that have suffered; For healing shall be your portion, And a bright light shall enlighten you, And the voice of rest ye shall hear from heaven.

Wherefore fear not, ye that have suffered; for healing — wholeness restored — shall be your portion, and a bright light — clear understanding — shall enlighten you, and the voice of rest — rest in God — ye shall hear from heaven, from the inner realm.

4Woe unto you, ye sinners, for your riches make you appear like the righteous, But your hearts convict you of being sinners, And this fact shall be a testimony against you for a memorial of (your) evil deeds.

Woe unto you, ye sinners — error-bound states — for your riches make you appear like the righteous, but your hearts, your inner centre, convict you of being in error, and this fact shall be a testimony against you — a recorded witness in the memory-record of consciousness — for a memorial of your evil deeds.

5Woe to you who devour the finest of the wheat, And drink wine in large bowls, And tread under foot the lowly with your might.

Woe to you who devour the finest of the wheat — the choicest truth-substance, the finest grain — and drink wine — the spiritual essence of truth, here turned to self-indulgence — in large bowls, and tread under foot the lowly, the humbled low states, with your might.

6Woe to you who drink water from every fountain, For suddenly shall ye be consumed and wither away, Because ye have forsaken the fountain of life.

Woe to you who drink water — unformed thought and feeling — from every fountain, from every passing source, for suddenly shall ye be consumed and wither away, because ye have forsaken the fountain of life, the one Source from which all life flows.

7Woe to you who work unrighteousness And deceit and blasphemy: It shall be a memorial against you for evil.

Woe to you who work unrighteousness and deceit and blasphemy — disorder, falsehood, and speech against the Source: it shall be a memorial against you for evil, written in the memory-record of the state.

8Woe to you, ye mighty, Who with might oppress the righteous; For the day of your destruction is coming. In those days many and good days shall come to the righteous--in the day of your judgement.

Woe to you, ye mighty — you states swollen with sense-power — who with might oppress the righteous, the right-ordered states; for the day of your destruction is coming, the crisis when the divine order confronts the state all at once. In those days many and good days shall come to the righteous — to the right-ordered — in the day of your judgment.
